Ephesus Magnesian Gate
Magnesian Gate is one of three enterences of Ephesus City which locates on the way to House of Virgin Mary. As many tours starts at upper ticket gate ( Southern Gate) of Ephesus city, Magnesian Gate is first bulding to see. Magnesian Gate dates back to 3. BC and named Magnesian as it faces to Magnesia Ancient City. During Greek era Magnesian Gate was an important gate as it locates on sacred road of Artemis temple however it lost its importance during Roman era and changed gate’s name “The Gate of Honor” by Roman emperor Vespasianus (69 – 79 A.D.) Unfurtunately Magnesian Gate is not open to public as it has not been restorated yet. Beside being an important ancient settlement, Ephesus is also the most visited ancient city of Modern Turkish Republic. From all over the world people come Ephesus to feel breeze of history.
