Ephesus State Agora

State agora dates back to 1. century BC, This agora was used not only for wholesales but for business too, it played an important role as a meeting place for the governmental discussions.

State agora was bordered stoas by three sides and decorated with beautifull statues. In this stoa some days philosophers were giving courses to their students. As well as stoas State Agora had a big cistern where they collected rainwater and distribute water to buildings with terracotta pipes. These terracotta pipes are still visible and well preserved.

While people are wondering in State Agora, they can see pink granite pillars remained from Isıs Temple. Isıs is an egyptian goddess who had a great temple which was dedicated to her name in State Agora. This temple is the proof of good relationship between Egyptians and Ephesians.
